Miguel Concepcion
Pennsylvania State Coordinator
Mr. Concepción was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico came to Philadelphia at the age of 12 years old since then he has taken on various leadership roles. He earned his high school diploma from Mastbaum Area Vocational Technical High School with a concentration in Accounting. During his years at Mastbaum, Mr. Concepción was part of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) where he represented his school and the City of Philadelphia in an Accounting competition where he earned third place statewide. Mr. Concepción was also the Treasurer of the Mastbuam ASPIRA Club with a membership well over 300 making it the largest ASPIRA Club of the State. Mr. Concepción is currently pursuing his dream of accomplishing his Baccalaureate degree at Rosemont College Graduate and Professional studies school in Organizational Development.
Mr. Concepción is committed to the Latino Community and does so by volunteering his time and sitting on the Executive Board for a number of community organizations. Mr. Concepción is currently a full-time student and works part-time for NET (Northeast Treatment Centers) where he works with children who have been through the Juvenile Justice System. Prior to his appointment at Democracia USA, as Pennsylvania State Coordinator, he worked for Congreso De Latinos Unidos at PASOS Hacia el Futuro as the Program Coordinator. Where he was in charge of recruiting mentors, maintaining their relationships, and creating activities for the matches throughout the duration of their commitment. Mr. Concepcion also worked for ASPIRA, Inc. of Pennsylvania as the Youth Development Coordinator leading the Leadership department of the agency. At ASPIRA, he was in charge of building the Leadership for the future Latino Leaders in the City of Philadelphia.
Boards and Community involvement:
Pennsylvania Statewide Latino Coalition - Treasurer, The Lighthouse Board of Directors – Treasurer, Latino Partnership Steering Committee – board member/Latino Leadership Institute, and the Latino Partnership Leadership Institute Alumni Association – First President and Founder of the Alumni Association. Mr. Concepción is a graduate of the First class of the Latino Partnership Institute (Descubriendo Juntos) and the United Way Southern Pennsylvania Leadership Institute. Mr. Concepción is also the Founder of the Young Professional group. As well as Co-Founder of Ecos del Pueblo a theatrical group. Mr. Concepción is part of the Hunting Park Stakeholders, Kensington Stakeholders, Taller Puertoriqueño and The Lighthouse Curfew Center as a Volunteer. Mr. Concepción is involved with City of Hope cure for Cancer, AIDS walk and the Three day Susan G Koman cure for Cancer where his sister walked and he help fundraise for her.
Mr. Concepción is passionate about his community, and he believes we are the owner of our own destiny. We must take action if we want changes in our life, and we must take pride in our neighborhoods.
