A judge has ordered supporters of a proposed ordinance designed to keep illegal immigrants out of a Dallas suburb to stay away from members of a Hispanic advocacy organization.

The restraining order issued Wednesday calls for Support Farmers Branch members to refrain from "stalking, harassing, shadowing, (or) tailgating" within 100 feet of known members or volunteers of the Farmers Branch chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens.

Support Farmers Branch members also are restrained from hateful, rude or harassing communication with LULAC members.

Both sides have been campaigning ahead of a May 12 vote on a city ordinance that would require apartment landlords to verify the legal status of many tenants.

The order by District Court Judge Jim Jordan was issued in a lawsuit filed on behalf of LULAC by Dallas attorney and activist Domingo Garcia, The Dallas Morning News reported in Thursday's online edition.

The suit alleges some Support Farmers Branch members have intimidated, harassed, threatened, and filed false police reports against members of the Farmers Branch LULAC chapter.
