To mark Constitution Week this week, immigration officials will naturalize more than 28,000 new U.S. citizens at 133 citizenship ceremonies nationwide, including three Friday in Miami.

Many of these ceremonies will take place at nationalparks and monuments across the United States. The ceremonies in Miami are scheduled to take place at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services citizenship office in the Brickell business district downtown, according to an agency statement.

The agency, part of the Department of Homeland Security, said the 28,000 is a record number of new Americans to be naturalized in one week. The record for Miami in one ceremony is 14,200 on the Fourth of July 1986 at the Orange Bowl. Ana Santiago, a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services spokeswoman in Miami, said about 700 people will recite the oath of citizenship in Miami on Friday.
