Non-Partisan Task Force Announces

Democracia USA (D-USA) has partnered with the Orange County League of Women Voters and a non-partisan coalition of Hispanic leaders, businesses, media and organizations to launch ¡Vamos A Votar!, a new campaign in Central Florida to motivate a record Hispanic voter turnout in the January 2008 presidential preference election and the 2008 primary and general elections. Along with Democracia USA, the coalition includes La Prensa newspaper, Spanish network Telemundo, and local radio station VIVA 1160 AM.
¡Vamos a Votar! Coalition grew from a task force initiated by the League of Women Voters in a collaborative with a broad cross section of community, business, and media partners. The coalition aims to motivate Hispanic voters and provide them with easier access to helpful information about elections, candidates and issues.
The coalition will publish and distribute a voter guide that will remind voters of the issues at stake in the 2008 elections, and encourage them to go to the polls. La Prensa and the En Agenda radio talk show have already agreed to play a major role in this effort. The coalition intends to engage local businesses to become involved by asking them to post informational and motivational posters and by allowing the coalition to provide information to their employees at their workplace about the process and importance of voting.
Having registered over 105,000 new Hispanic voters across the nation (21,000 in Central Florida alone) for the 2006 election, Democracia USA will lead the voter registration efforts in Central Florida. The ¡Vamos A Votar! Coalition as a whole will provide outreach and Get Out The Vote efforts. The coalition is co-chaired by Dora Casanova de Toro and Ayme Rodríguez Smith.
