The bigoted rhetoric against immigrants that is increasingly
becoming an acceptable part of our public dialogue feeds this
intolerance and leads to these situations where human beings are
psychologically and physically denigrated. We call on local, state and
federal officials along with all citizens to change the tone of the
debate on immigration, before this country slides further into an abyss
of racial profiling and physical attacks againts undocumented -- and
unprotected -- immigrants.
